Draw Tab in MS Word – Complete Guide 

Introduction

The Draw Tab in MS Word is a very useful feature, especially for those who work with touchscreen devices or stylus pens. 1. Drawing

Purpose:

  • Lets you draw freely on the document using Pen, Pencil, or Highlighter.

Use:

  • You can sketch, write, underline, or annotate directly on the screen.

  • Very useful when working with a stylus or touchscreen device.


2. Tools

The Draw Tab provides different tools to work with ink.

Includes:

  • Pen

  • Pencil

  • Highlighter

  • Eraser

  • Lasso Select

  • Ruler

Functions:

  • Pen / Pencil: Write or draw with different ink styles and colors.

  • Highlighter: Highlight text or areas with transparent ink.

  • Eraser: Remove unwanted strokes.

  • Lasso Select: Select ink objects by circling them.

  • Ruler: Draw straight lines or measure angles.


3. Cancel

This option is not always directly named as “Cancel,” but you can:

  • Use Undo Button to cancel the last action.

  • Press Esc to exit drawing or selection mode.

Use: Helpful to stop drawing or exit a tool without saving changes.


4. Edit

Function: Allows you to modify ink strokes.

How:

  • Select ink using the Lasso Tool, then move, resize, delete, or change color.

  • Ink can also be converted into shapes or text for further editing.


5. Convert

The Convert option makes your handwritten input more polished.

  • Ink to Shape: Converts rough shapes into perfect geometric figures.

  • Ink to Text: Turns handwritten words into typed text.

  • Ink to Math: Converts handwritten equations into formatted math expressions.


6. Insert

Function: Insert drawing-related objects.

Use:

  • Insert Drawing Canvas for organized sketching.

  • Insert Ink Equations for math-based work.

  • Add images or content and draw over them.


7. Replay (Ink Replay)

Purpose: Plays back your drawing step-by-step like a video.

Use:

  • Great for presentations, tutorials, or reviewing.

  • Shows each pen stroke in the order it was made.


8. Help

Where: Found under the Help Section or by clicking the Question Mark (?) icon.

Use:

  • Opens Microsoft Support, Tips, or Tutorials.

  • Shortcut: Press F1 for Office Help.
