 What is a Pen Drive?

A Pen Drive is a small portable USB storage device. It helps you store, copy, and transfer files or folders from one computer to another easily.

How to Use a Pen Drive

  • Click Start → My Computer

  • Double-click on the Pen Drive icon to open it.

2. Save Files/Folders from Pen Drive to Computer

  1. Right-click on the file/folder in the Pen Drive → Copy

  2. Go to the desired location on your computer → Right-click → Paste

3. Copy Files/Folders from Computer to Pen Drive

  1. Right-click on the file/folder → Select Send to

  2. Choose your Pen Drive’s name

4. Safely Remove (Eject) the Pen Drive

  • This prevents data loss or corruption.

5. Scan Pen Drive for Virus

6. Format the Pen Drive (Erase Data)

  • Right-click on the Pen Drive → Format

  • This deletes all files from the Pen Drive.

 Paste vs Paste Shortcut

When moving or duplicating files, you will see two options: Paste and Paste Shortcut. Let’s understand the difference.

✅ Paste

  • Copies the original file into the new location.

  • Now the file exists in two places (both original and copied location).

✅ Paste Shortcut

  • Creates a mirror link (shortcut) of the file.

  • File remains in the original location, and the shortcut just points to it.
