  4. Netscape Navigator

3. Search Engines

A Search Engine helps you find information on the internet.

  • Examples: Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, MSN, Khoj.

  • Google is the most widely used search engine worldwide.


4. URL (Uniform Resource Locator)

  • The web address of a website or search engine is called a URL.

  • Example: http://www.google.com

    • http: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol

    • www: World Wide Web

    • google: Domain name

    • .com: Top-level domain (commercial)

Other extensions:

  • .in – India

  • .gov – Government

  • .edu – Education


5. Types of Computer Networks

5.1 LAN (Local Area Network)

  • Connects computers within a limited area like a home, school, or office.

  • Example: Connecting multiple PCs and a printer in an office.

5.2 WAN (Wide Area Network)

  • Covers a large geographical area, connecting devices globally.

  • Example: The Internet itself is the biggest WAN.

5.3 MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

  • Covers a city or metropolitan area.

  • Faster than LAN, smaller than WAN.

  • Uses fiber optic cables for high-speed connectivity.


6. Requirements for Internet Surfing

To surf the internet, you need:

  1. Computer – Any computer or laptop.

  2. Programs – Special programs like browsers.

  3. Modem – Transfers data between computer & internet.

  4. Telephone Line – For broadband internet.

  5. ISP (Internet Service Provider) – Company that provides internet access.

  6. Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) – Wireless connectivity using a router.


7. E-Mail Account

What is an Email?

  • An Email Account allows you to send and receive electronic messages.

  • Example: [email protected]

    • Username: anilcomputersudaipur

    • Domain Name: @gmail.com

8. How to Create a Gmail Account?

  1. Open www.gmail.com → Click on Create Account.

  2. Fill in details: Name, Username, Password, Birthday, Gender, Mobile Number.

  3. Click Next Step → I Agree.

  4. Your Gmail account is created.
    ? To exit, click on Sign Out.


9. How to Send an Email?

  1. Click on Compose.

  2. Fill in details:

    • To: Recipient’s email address.

    • CC/BCC: To send copies to multiple people.

    • Attach File: To send documents, images, or files.

  3. Type your message → Click Send.


10. Download Photo / Image from Internet

  • Right Click on Image → Save Image As → Select Folder → Save.
